An Australian tourist infected with the measles may have spread the virus in Orange and Putnam counties.

The unidentified tourist is said to have visited multiple locations in both counties between Feb. 19 and Feb. 21.

According to the New York state Department of Health, the person visited the Watchtower Educational Center in Patterson on Feb. 19 and the Comfort Inn in Middletown on Feb. 20.

It also says the person visited Excel Urgent Care in Goshen and the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown on Feb. 21.

Symptoms of measles, which usually appear up to two weeks after exposure, include fever, rash, cough, conjunctivitis or a runny nose.

The health department is asking anyone who may have been exposed or may have symptoms to contact their health provider before seeking medical care.
