A local psychic is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a Bedford woman and possibly several more victims.
The 64-year-old Bedford woman says she was scammed out of her life savings by a woman allegedly posing as a spiritual psychic. The woman says she wants to remain anonymous.
Police say they arrested Janet Lee of Scarsdale last month and charged her with grand larceny for running a fake fortune telling business.
Bob Nygaard, a private investigator representing the victim, says the incident could've been easily avoided.
Nygaard says there are four more victims from White Plains, Hartsdale and Connecticut. He says each victim reached out to him within the last few years but that each time he reported it, police did nothing.
Fortune telling is against the law in New York.
Nygaard set up his own sting operation in April to investigate Lee, but says that police pushed the issue to the side again.
He says a person from Scarsdale reported being scammed by Lee the next month, and two months later, the Bedford woman came forward.
Nygaard tells News 12 Westchester all of the victims who have come forward hope they are awarded justice when Lee appears in court later this week and early next year.
