Nor'easter brings flooding to Piermont, cuts power in Nyack

A violent nor'easter spent Friday slamming the Hudson Valley with strong winds and heavy precipitation, causing flooding in Piermont and a power outage in downtown Nyack.

The storm surge flooded parking lots, streets and backyards in Piermont and other river towns. Authorities have been urging people to park on elevated ground to avoid getting them stuck or damaged.

The fire department even spent most of the day pumping water out from inside flooded homes. And authorities also warned residents to prepare for another surging high tide at midnight by keeping valuables on the higher levels of their homes.

The damage is visible in other parts of Rockland County, too: fallen trees, downed power lines and dangerous roads during the evening commute.
