Newburgh is mourning the recent losses of three beloved local officials who all passed away from cancer over the weekend.
Two of Newburgh’s strongest supporters - Mayor Judy Kennedy and state Rep. Frank Skartados - lost their battles with cancer on the same day.
Longtime Newburgh Police Sgt. Paul Horaz succumbed to cancer just two days before.
Residents say the efforts from all three helped to make Newburgh a better place.
Horaz was laid to rest Tuesday.
A public service for Kennedy will be held Thursday at the Armory Unity Center.
A prayer service for Rep. Skartados will be held on Friday.
Downtown bar owner Dan Brown knew Mayor Kennedy personally during her seven years in office. He's holding a public toast in her memory for the community on Thursday night.
