Jordan Lucas of the Kansas City Chiefs once stopped opposing offenses while playing at New Rochelle High School, and now he will do the same when his team plays against the San Francisco 49er’s at Super Bowl LIV.
While Lucas, a safety who graduated from Penn State, has been preparing in South Florida for the game, his mother, Denise Oakley, has been cheering him on from her home in White Plains.
“In my heart, to see that my son actually, you know, lived out his dream, not only to be an NFL player but to make a Super Bowl game... it's awesome,” Oakley said.
When asked how she is going to feel on the day of the game, Oakley said “Probably a mummy in that seat just watching the field. But I’ll probably be so excited, I can’t even sit down.”
Lucas is the second New Rochelle player to make it to the Super Bowl. His brother-in-law, Ray Rice, won it with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013.
Former New Rochelle High School coach, Lou DiRienzo, said that both Lucas and Rice have a lot in common.
“I think God gave them the ability to play at that highest level but they had the fortitude to do the work and do everything it took to play in the NFL and play in the biggest game in the NFL,” DiRienzo said.
