A traffic stop in Mount Vernon landed one officer in the hospital and three young suspects under arrest on drug and weapons charges.
Police say they were trying to pull over a car with the three suspects in it for a traffic infraction Friday night when the vehicle took off.
The suspects? Mazda came to a stop a few blocks away, but police say the car, driven by 21-year-old Michael Owens, rammed the unmarked police car twice.According to police, when Owens tried to get away, one of his passengers, 19-year-old Raheem Jones, jumped out and pulled a 6-inch knife on one of the officers. That officer was injured after he tore ligaments to his hand while struggling with Jones. Police arrested both Owens and Jones and also reportedly found 37 bags of crack on Jones. The third passenger, 18-year-old Deameatrice Price, was arrested a block away. Police say he tossed a loaded gun during his getaway. Cops also recovered a black mask and glove from the car the three were driving.
Police say Price?s 19-year-old brother was stabbed on Gramatan Avenue the day before. Detectives are investigating whether the two incidents are related.
Meanwhile, the three suspects face numerous charges, including assault, reckless endangerment and drug and weapons possession.
