Barrels of potentially dangerous chemicals found at a DPW facility in Mount Vernon were removed on Tuesday.

The facility is located along Canal Street in Mount Vernon.

Officers from New York State Environmental Conservation Department arrived with gloves and respirators to process the barrels.

Last Thursday, five 55-gallon barrels, along with some 5-gallon buckets appeared inside the facility. Authorities say they were filled with multiple products, including chemicals that could be potentially hazardous.

Acting Public Safety Commissioner Ron Fatigate insists there's no danger to the public. The contents of the barrels have not been identified, however.
