Some residents in Mohegan Lake say their town over the last two years has not listened to their complaints about construction work.
On the quiet cul-de-sac of Lucs Lane, construction noise next door to the Espositos has them feeling like their quality of life has gone downhill.
It started in early 2015, when the Town of Cortlandt gave the green light to start building 170,000 square feet of retail space on Route 6 with plans to open a 24-hour ShopRite, which according to Domenick Esposito is infringing on his property.
"You can see all the vines from their trees are all ending up in my backyard," he says.
Esposito says the problems in his backyard have grown to be so bad that tree branches have been falling across his lawn, with some even onto his son's swingset. But he says his calls to the town and their promises to clean up the mess have gone by the wayside.
Mary Forenz lives across the cul-de-sac, even closer to the new ShopRite.
"First it was going to be 25 houses here," she says. "Then it was changed to supermarkets."
Even though these residents know that they can't stop big business from moving next door, they say they just want to feel protected.
The Town of Cortlandt tells News 12 that an 8-foot privacy fence will be put up in the next few months, even though the approved plans do not call for a wall.
