Dr. William Zarowitz, a partner at Maple Medical Group, confirmed on Friday that two more staff members at Maple Medical Group on Davis Avenue have tested positive for the coronavirus. It brings the total number of cases in the office to three.
Last night, a cardiologist was confirmed to have the coronavirus. Today, another cardiologist and a nurse practitioner were dealt the same diagnosis. The first doctor was infected by the New Rochelle attorney who was the first person to test positive for coronavirus in Westchester, according to Dr. Zarowitz.
Zarowitz says that physician was not under quarantine orders but as soon as he became symptomatic, he stopped seeing patients and stayed home. The office at 30 David Ave. closed Thursday and remains closed.
Zarowitz says crews were brought in to do a special cleaning of the entire building and the medical group is working with the county and state departments of health, as well as White Plains Hospital to make sure staff and patients are safe.
Maple Medical is reaching out to patients who have been there in the past two weeks to set up testing. Meanwhile, several doctors from Maple Medical have privileges at White Plains Hospital, where they can treat patients.
Health officials are reminding everyone about proper protocol if they develop symptoms of coronavirus like coughing, fever and shortness of breath.
"If they do become ill, as we've said many times, please don't go to your hospital, your medical provider without calling them first," says Westchester County Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler. "Giving them a heads up so they can be prepared to receive you in a safe manner for the people who provide care."
Bob Sammartano, 69 of Pleasantville, says he and his wife were treated by one of the infected doctors recently.
"I had direct exposure to one of the cardiologists. He examined me for 15 to 20 minutes. We had body contact, I was within 10 inches of him at times," says Sammartano. "Thank God if I have it, I have no symptoms."
Those who have been to the office recently have been advised to call 914-220-0283.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said at a news conference Friday afternoon that New York state has 44 coronavirus cases, up from 22 cases the day before. He said all of the new cases are tied to the case in Westchester County.
