Lt. Gov. Paterson calls for state to move past scandal
deadline quickly approaching and a current shortfall of at least $4 billion. Paterson is spent Friday trying to build the bipartisan coalition he promised after Spitzer announced his resignation. Paterson is meeting privately with Democratic Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, Republican Senate Leader Joseph Bruno, Republican Assembly Leader James Tedisco, Democratic Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and Democratic Senate Leader Malcolm Smith.
On Wednesday, Gov. Spitzer resigned due to accusations he hired a prostitute named "Kristen" to travel to Washington, D.C. The woman has now been identified as Ashley Alexandra Dupre, an aspiring singer, whose music can now be heard online. Due to her newfound notoriety, Dupre?s song is being played on radio stations across the country and being downloaded 200,000 times. Dupre has also received offers to endorse products and pose nude in magazines.
Meanwhile, Spitzer may face two federal charges for the tryst. He could be charged with money laundering, for his alleged covert payments to the escort service. He could also be charged for having Dupre cross state lines, which could be a violation of the Mann Act. There is also a possibility that Dupre could testify against Spitzer.
