It was a full round table discussion Thursday night with officials of all levels discussing top concerns about the impending closure and decommissioning of Indian Point next year.

At the meeting, Westchester County Executve George Latimer called for the public comment period to be extended from 30 days to 60 days. He also wants Holtec, the company posed to buy and tear down the nuclear power plant, to host a meeting with officials of every municipality.

"When there is discussion about transporting radioactivity, or radioactive material out of the plant down the river, every single river town that south of us down to Yonkers wants to know more about it," says Latimer.

Holtec estimates the job could take 12-15 years and cost approximately $2.3 billion. That's more than the decommissioning fund affords.

Some have criticized Holtec for not explaining how it will overcome the funding issue.

Councilman Richard Becker says getting the job done, not running into financial difficulties and safety are among his concerns.
