A group of Edgemont residents teamed up to save a kitten that they found trapped in a storm drain over the weekend.
The search party included 10 Greenville firefighters, two animal control officers, more than a dozen residents and a 2-year-old girl.
The kitten vanished inside the drain outside Stephanie Balkin's home Thursday morning, she says.
"We didn't think anything of it, but we kept hearing crying and yelping," Balkin says. "So we called the fire department an hour later."
A day later, water officials came to help, but they still couldn't reach the kitten.
By Memorial Day morning, the rescuers had all but given up. With the help of animal control, they final retrieved the 8-week-old male kitten.
He has since been named Pipes.
