Indictment unsealed against alleged 'party mom'
A 35-count indictment was unsealed Tuesday against Beth Modica, the 44-year-old former Rockland prosecutor accused of holding wild parties for teens at her home.
Modica now faces a slew of charges, including rape, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. Investigators say she held alcohol- and drug-fueled parties for teenage boys over the summer, parties in which she engaged in oral sex and sexual intercourse with at least two teen boys.Ramapo police now say the drinking parties were not specifically thrown for the Suffern High School hockey team, as previously reported. However, they have not ruled out that members of the hockey team were involved.
Modica's attorney says his client is a respected attorney in the community. He also claims the judge set bail too high at $75,000. Modica pleaded not guilty to the charges. She faces up to four years behind bars if convicted.
Beth Modica is married to the Spring Valley police chief, Paul Modica. However, the two are separated and the DA says Paul Modica had no idea about his wife's activities. Two orders of protection have been filed against Modica requiring her to stay away from the teens who she allegedly had sex with. She is due back in court next week.
