Gov. Ned Lamont visited an elementary school in Norwalk Wednesday to learn more about its unique process of improving test scores.

The governor paid a visit to the Tracey Elementary School, where test scores have jumped dramatically in the last three years.

Teachers told the governor scores have improved because of their "whole child" approach.

Staff members say they work one on one with kids like a family, and include pairing students with an adult mentor.

Teachers explore students' feelings and also eat lunch with students.

Lamont says he hopes to see other schools implement similar practices.

Gov. Lamont said he's hoping to give every school system at least as much money as they got last year. Some districts say that's not nearly enough to do what they are doing at Tracey Elementary School.
