The frigid weather has made parts of the Hudson River impassable leaving ferry commuters in Westchester and Rockland counties high and dry.

Ice floes can be found in the channel the ferry uses to carry commuters from Haverstraw to the Ossining Metro-North Train Station. Starting Tuesday, 12 buses will take the almost 250 riders from the Haverstraw ferry terminal to the Tarrytown train station in the morning, while 11 buses will bring them back for the evening commute.

Fortunately for other commuters, Metro-North's trains continue to run despite some weather-related problems. Metro-North officials say they are spending the overnight hours to make sure none of the railroad's equipment freezes up. As for the ferry service, it will resume when the weather warms and the ice jam breaks.
