An overnight fire on Christmas in Yonkers left more than a dozen people homeless.

Fire officials say they responded to a call for the two-alarm flames at 100 Locust Hill Ave. around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Crews tell News 12 there was heavy flames inside the walls and ceilings of all three floors of the home. Crews were forced to punch holes in walls to get to the fire.

Fire officials say it took 55 firefighters an hour to get flames under control and another hour to get the fire completely extinguished.

All fifteen people living in the home got out safely but two firefighters suffered minor injuries. One of the residents says he was out visiting friends on Christmas when he received a terrible phone call that his home was on fire.

"I didn't know what to do, so when I came down here, I just couldn't get in, couldn't do anything, terrible, just terrible," says James Crump.

There is not a lot of visible damage to the house from the outside, but residents say the inside is destroyed.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
