The Fernandez family says a problem with their loved one's health care proxy paperwork has left them unable to communicate with him.
Denise Fernandez says her family has been unable to contact her brother, Danny Fernandez, since his removal from a ventilator last Sunday.
The retired state trooper has been hospitalized with coronavirus since last month. He was taken off the breathing device after receiving convalescent plasma.
News 12 is told the issue is preventing their 80-year-old mother from communicating with her son during his stay at Wallkill's Orange Regional Medical Center.
“It’s very disturbing to know that you would put an 80-year-old mother in this type of distress to not know what is happening with her son,”  says Fernandez. “With that, it’s a tough situation.”
Due to the paperwork issues, the family has not been able to receive updates about his condition.
News 12 reached out to Orange Regional Medical Center for comment but has not yet heard back.
