A retired state trooper is fighting for his life as he awaits more plasma donations.

News 12 is told former state police senior investigator Danny Fernandez has been on a ventilator at Orange Regional Medical Center for two weeks.

According to family members, the 54-year old started experimental plasma treatments last night, but it took a while.

“I asked on Friday what the turnaround time would be to get plasma and I was told a few weeks,” recalls sister Denise Fernandez.

Fortunately, her brother is responding to the treatment, but she wants his situation to highlight a severe shortage of plasma from people who've recovered from coronavirus.

“If you can donate, donate. Because it really is every day matters for these patients,” says Fernandez.

The law enforcement community and complete strangers donated after learning his condition on social media.

Although the former trooper remains in critical condition, the family is hopeful he’ll recover.
