Authorities say a man plunged to his death after driving through a gated embankment near the East Mount Vernon train station.

Authorities say a man plunged to his death after driving through a gated embankment near the East Mount Vernon train station.
Police say the elderly driver was behind the wheel of a Toyota when he veered off the road and drove through a fence. The vehicle dropped 50 feet down the embankment.
The deceased man has not been identified. Police have not released details on the cause of the crash.
Mount Vernon officials are calling on the MTA to install better fencing around the tracks.
In a statement, a MTA spokeswoman said, "The MTA is working with Mount Vernon police to investigate this incident. Metro-North will use the results of the investigation to inform decisions on further enhancing safety improvements that are already planned for Mount Vernon.
