Officials: Man dies after driving car off ledge near Mount Vernon train station

Officials say a man drove through a gated embankment near the Mount Vernon train station Saturday, plunging around 50 feet to his death.
The unidentified man was driving in his Toyota along East First Street around 2:30 p.m. when he went through the gate and landed near the train tracks.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mayor Richard Thomas called it a “tragic accident.”
Mayor Thomas is calling on the MTA to install more secure gates around the train station.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash.
