NYC Ferry workers say the Soundview ferry's first official day of operations attracted as many as 100 commuters on some trips and never less than 40.
The new ferry route connects Soundview to East 90th and East 34th streets and Pier 11/Wall Street. The entire ride takes less than an hour and costs commuters as much as the subway.
The only complaint so far — there might not be enough parking for all of the people eager to come aboard.
Hornblower, the company that operates the ferry, says only street parking is available for the time being.
The city's Economic Development Corporation points out that the system was designed for people who live and work near the water, and that 70 percent of people who use this ferry system walk to the landings.
The NYCEDC also says it worked diligently with the MTA to extend the Bx27 bus line to the front of the landing for convenience and has been working with elected officials to identify other potential parking areas.
An NYC Parks concession with a parking lot is due to open in the coming year, which could provide some daytime relief.
