Domestic violence questions surround Scarsdale murder case
Questions of domestic violence surround the murder case involving a Scarsdale financial services executive accused of stabbing his wife to death last week.
Prosecutors say that Julius Reich ambushed his wife, Dr. Robin Goldman. They say he attacked her from behind and stabbed her 21 times.
It's not clear if the victim had suffered domestic abuse at the hands of her husband of three decades. Police say they had never been called to the house before. News 12 has learned that Reich filed for divorce last year.
Prosecutors say Goldman began to fear her husband in recent weeks. She reportedly changed her locks and even contemplated getting an order of protection.
Karen Cheeks-Lomax, from My Sister's Place, says domestic violence affects one in three people, and women are the most vulnerable as a relationship dissolves.
"At the point when an individual decides to leave, the controlling partner may feel there's nothing left to lose," she says. "If a person decides to extricate themselves from this relationship, then there are times when it could escalate and be dangerous."
Reich remains in Westchester County Jail after a judge denied him bail last week.
