Lawmakers have just one week to sign the controversial East Ramapo oversight bill into law.
The bill would install a state monitor with veto power over the Hassidic Orthodox-run school board of East Ramapo. The board has been accused of short-changing public school students.
The Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council has released a new advertisement expressing staunch opposition to the monitor.
The bill's supporters are also on the offensive, highlighting a legal defeat on Friday that they say cost the cash-strapped district millions of dollars in legal fees.
On Friday, New York's highest court ruled against the school board, which sued the state after getting cited for unlawfully placing students in private schools at public expense.
The current legislative session ends June 17.
