A resident is demanding immediate changes to a stretch of Route 59 in Monsey after a series of accidents in the area.
Over the summer, a baby was hit and killed after a car struck a family of four walking on the side of the road. Sara Reiner says her mother was in the crosswalk when she was hit by a car in Monsey last Wednesday.
Reiner is blaming the traffic light at the busy intersection, saying the accident could have been avoided.
She says cars can still make turns when the crosswalk says “go,” making it dangerous for pedestrians.
News 12 reached out to the supervisor's office, who says the area is extremely dangerous and one of the most dangerous spots on Route 59. They have contacted the state Department of Traffic and asked them to make immediate changes.
