The 14-year-old boy who was fatally struck by a car in Mount Vernon Thursday has been identified.
Police say David Guardado was hit as he crossed the intersection at South Fulton Avenue and East 3rd Street. According to authorities, the incident happened at the peak of rush hour at 6 p.m. Guardado was pronounced dead at Sound Shore Medical Center after suffering severe head trauma.
Grief counselors will be on hand Monday at A.B. David Middle School, where Guardado was a student.
Relatives and neighbors remembered Guardado as a devout Christian who was active in his church and school. Family friend Milton Forero says the teen was mature beyond his years, preaching to dozens of churches in the Bronx and Manhattan.
The accident that resulted in Guardado?s death now has many residents in the community demanding the installation of speed bumps and pedestrian signals.
