Cops: Accused sex offender may be linked to disappearance
Bloomington police are being tight-lipped about the house and property raid conducted Thursday morning in Martinsville, Indiana that is connected to the disappearance of Edgemont native Lauren Spierer.
"We did in fact assist the FBI in Morgan County as part of the ongoing investigation in the Lauren Spierer case," is all Bloomington Police Lt. John Kovach would say at a news conference this morning.
The Martinsville area, which is in Morgan County, Indiana is about 30 minutes away from the Indiana University campus, where Spierer was a student when she disappeared in 2011.
No other information would be released, the department says.
Several media outlets reported that the searched property belongs to the family of Justin Wagers, who once lived in the home.
Shortly after Lauren disappeared, investigators focused on a white truck seen on surveillance video, but later said it had no connection to the investigation. But yesterday, investigators towed a white truck from the property.
Police have said Wagers was being investigated in connection with Spierer's disappearance as well as two other people. Wagers is accused of exposing himself to many women, and was arrested for that in August. He has been in custody since then.
News 12 attempted to contact Spierer's parents in Edgemont but could not reach them. A close family friend says they were initially unaware of the latest development. An FBI representative says the agency is closely following the case with the Bloomington Police Department.
Spierer went missing in June 2011 after a night of partying at Indiana University. She was 20 years old at the time.
