Con Edison CEO John McAvoy was inside company headquarters in Manhattan Friday, where he blamed the slow restoration process on the two devastating back-to-back nor'easters unlike the company's seen before.
“We're not just repairing our system, in many cases we're rebuilding it,” he told News 12.
The Con Edison outage map at 5 p.m. showed that around 11,000 customers were without power in Westchester County.
McAvoy says mutual aid workers are back on the job, which include 80 workers who were helping in Puerto Rico.
“It's part of how mutual aid works, that you will give and get, and as a result, we all end up in a better position,” said McAvoy.
News 12’s Rebecca Solomon asked what McAvoy would say to customers who are still powerless despite the website saying power has been restored.
“We believe we have the accurate data now, and if you give us a data point we will look through it, and if someone believes they are not certain we have their outage registered, they should call us at 1-800-75-CON-ED.”
“We will continue to stay focused on the safe and timely restoration until the last customer is restored,” McAvoy added.
Con Edison says it's hoping to have power restored throughout Westchester by the end of the weekend.
