College students at City Tech are putting their technological skills to work through the production of their annual high-tech haunted hotel walk-through.
The Gravesend Inn is an attraction that students at the college have been creating for two decades.
Students tell News 12 Brooklyn that the display is inspired by a Coney Island resort in the late 19th century.
Student Daniel Santamaria tells News 12 that he does it all for the screams. He says that he and his fellow classmates build every thrill in the haunted hotel from scratch, including programming the movements of the characters and creating their costumes.
Professor Susan Brandt says the display gets more and more high-tech every year, with hidden motion sensors that can detect where visitors are standing so that students know how and when to scare them.
Brandt tells News 12 that the students install the technology, put it together, test it and run the attraction. In order to complete the structure, they must study lighting, sound, video, show control and stage management.
