Brother turns himself in after Mt. Vernon shooting
Police say a man turned himself in to authorities after a shooting in Mount Vernon.
According to police, shots were fired around 7 p.m. Tuesday on Nubert Avenue after Curtis and Christopher Lambert, both in their 20s, got into a fight. Investigators say Curtis shot his brother Christopher once in the right side of his body.
A cousin reportedly drove the victim to Mount Vernon Hospital. He was then transferred to Westchester Medical Center where he is listed in serious condition.
Police say Curtis Lambert is facing a charge of assault in the first degree and attempted murder. Police are investigating what sparked the shooting.
The incident comes on the heels of a violent week in the city. Police say a father and 12-year-old were assaulted by a group of students outside Longfellow Middle School Monday. Also, police arrested two teenagers in the April shooting death of Reginald Rogers.
As a result, dozens of residents gathered at the Doles Community Center Tuesday to discuss methods of stopping the violence. Steven Brockman, a shooting victim paralyzed from the waist down, sent a powerful message to youths who may be considering a violent path. ?Try not to pick up those guns and knives and hurt people because at the end of the day you're hurting families and also yourself because anything can happen," Brockman said.
