Bronxville neighborhood on alert after 2nd break-in
A neighborhood in the village of Bronxville is on alert after a violent home invasion and robbery this weekend, marking the second break-in reported within a week.
The first incident took place at 35 Summit Ave. at around 10:45 p.m. Saturday. Police say two men scaled the roof of the home, broke into a window of the master bedroom and entered a closet.
Homeowners George and Jenny Shively say they awoke to find the masked men coming out of the closet.
Officials say the thieves demanded jewelry and money and began to threaten the couple. George Shively says one of the suspects hit him in the head with a flashlight.
The two men allegedly grabbed more than $300, a watch, a coin collection and Jenny Shively's wedding ring, which she was wearing at the time.
Police say they are canvassing pawn shops from Westchester to New York City, checking if the suspects tried to sell the stolen ring.
The home invasion comes after another break-in was reported at a home on Governors Road on May 10. No one was home at the time, but police say the thieves made off with documents, cash and jewelry.
Bronxville Police Chief Christopher Satriale says he is confident that the two incidents are related. He says that both occurred at around the same time and the suspects entered the homes through windows.
In the meantime, police are urging residents to make sure their alarm systems are activated and to lock their windows.
