A single, working mother in Bridgeport says she was almost five months pregnant when she lost the child two weeks ago as the direct result of a physical attack by a woman she knows.
Abby Hernandez, 32, says the attack took place on Christmas Day and medical records show that her miscarriage happened a month-and-a-half later. She says the child was going to be named Valentina Lisamarie.
Hernendez explained that the woman was “chest-bumping me hard” during the incident.
“My stomach started to cramp up and I just felt a gush of blood come down my legs,” she told News 12. “They called an ambulance and I went to the emergency room."
She says her baby miscarried because the “membrane ruptured.”
News 12 is not identifying the alleged attacker because she has not been charged in connection with the miscarriage. She was charged with a misdemeanor for the attack.
“She needs to really be prosecuted for what she has done because it doesn't just affect me. It's affected my friends. It's affected my family," said Hernandez.
Hernandez pointed to a recent decision by the California Supreme Court declaring a person can be convicted of murder for causing the death of a fetus that could have been legally aborted.
Police say the case is still under investigation and more charges could be pending.
