Hudson County prosecutors say they've arrested the father of a young girl whose remains were found in Jersey City earlier this month.
They say Travis Plummer, 37, has been charged with desecrating human remains, but not with being the child's killer.
The child has been identified as Te'Myah Layauna Plummer, born in Richmond, Virginia on May 19, 2016. She would have been 2 years old next month.
FBI agents working at the bureau's DNA lab in Quantico, Virginia confirmed her identity.
Officials say they first believed Te'Myah was 10 months old, but further investigation revealed she was closer to two. They say when the DNA tests came back, they were able to track down Te'Myah’s father in San Juan, Puerto Rico and arrested him on April 19.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office believes the child died out-of-state.
New Jersey investigators say they got on the trail of this case two weeks ago when the girl's body was found in a suitcase near the train tracks.
Police in Richmond told the local newspaper they were investigating Te'Myah’s death as a missing persons case and that the baby was last seen in August.
Investigators say they are still working to determine how, where and when the girl died.
Plummer is expected to be extradited to New Jersey from Puerto Rico.
