Bergen County authorities are searching for two men who left an injured dog at the Oradell Animal Hospital.
The county prosecutor’s office and SPCA say that the men dropped the dog off at the hospital on Nov. 3 around 4:30 p.m.
The dog, a 2-year-old Akita-mix, appeared to be neglected and had several injuries including a swollen hind leg. Veterinarians say that the leg injury seems to indicate that the dog had been trapped or otherwise tied up. The dog was so badly injured that it had to be put down.
Authorities say that the men provided different accounts of how they found the dog. One man claimed that the dog was found in the woods in Mahwah. The other claimed that the dog was found at a construction site in Bergen or Rockland counties.
The two men were driving in a black Lincoln Navigator with New York plates. The men left without going into the hospital or giving their names, according to police.
Officials say that it is possible that the men are good Samaritans, but they would like to speak to the men to get further information. Officials did not provide a description of the men.
Anyone who might have any information about the case is asked to contact the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Animal Cruelty Task Force at 201-226-5632, or the Bergen County SPCA at 201-573-8900.
