Most people who think about art exhibits will usually think of it being at a museum, art gallery or the studio of an artist.
But a group of artists in Hudson County have created a unique exhibit that transforms an entire floor of a hotel in Jersey City into a gallery.
The exhibit is on the eighth floor of the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City.
Artist Pam Cooper tells News 12 New Jersey that she was looking for a challenge and found one in transforming one of the hotel room into a gallery of her paper sculptures.
“Most of my stuff is usually nailed to the wall and they don’t take kindly to putting nails into the wall here,” Cooper says.
Each room on the eighth floor features a different artist or gallery. There is no space that is not used – including hotel bathrooms.
It is all part of the 14C Art Fair, named for Jersey City exit on the New Jersey Turnpike. The fair is designed to give artists and art lovers a chance to meet.
“We like the intimacy. We like the way it makes it friendly. It makes it Jersey. It makes it very approachable,” says 14C Art Fair executive director Robinson Holloway.
The art fair is held just one weekend a year. Information about tickets and parking can be found on the fair’s website.
