Anti-gov't rally falls short of expectations
A rally calling for the abolition of county government and tax reform, which was held in White Plains Saturday, drew smaller crowds than initially expected.
Sam Zherka, the strip club owner and publisher of the Westchester Guardian, spent thousands of dollars promoting the "Westchester Tea Party." Zherka says he is happy with the turnout, although he was hoping for more than 4,000 people to attend the rally.
White Plains police say the total number of people who gathered in front of the Westchester County Office Building was close to 700. The protesters were joined by Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner and David Spano, the son of Westchester County Executive Andy Spano.
David Spano plans to run against his father in November. He says he can make major changes from the inside.
"We have an extravagant government we don't really need," he says. "So by running for county executive, I intend to be the last county executive."
Deputy County Executive Susan Tolchin claims David Spano is being exploited by Zherka in his efforts to smear the county executive.
