People across the Hudson Valley stopped to remember the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor yesterday.
On Dec. 7, 1941, hundreds of Japanese warplanes bombed the U.S. Pacific fleet in Hawaii.
One of the last few surviving veterans of Pearl Harbor received a special honor last night in Rockland. Hide Oshiro, 100, shared his memories of Pearl Harbor at the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor.
Oshiro was teaching Sunday school in Honolulu at the time of the attack. As an American of Japanese descent, he was forced to live in a special internment camp, but later went on to serve in the U.S. Army.
The event was all part of a special ceremony honoring the military men and women who defended our nation.
