Three men are under arrest in connection to a home invasion and shooting that police say happened just feet away from two young children in Ellenville earlier this month.

The suspects were identified as Shaquon McGinnis, Luis Gonzalez-Lopez and Nathaniel Negron during a news conference at the Ellenville Police Department Wednesday where authorities announced they were charged with burglary and assault.

A multiagency investigation led law enforcement to the suspects, who they say were masked and armed during the violent incident at Canal Lock Apartments on Center Street March 8.

“The video of this incident clearly shows the suspects armed with a long gun and an extended magazine,” said Ellenville Police Chief Phillip Mattracion.

Police say the suspects made their way into the apartment building at approximately 10 p.m. and then the victim’s unit where Negron, who is from Ellenville, opened fire on a male victim.

“The subject behind the door opened it a crack. One of the suspects fired the firearm, striking the victim in the arm,” said Mattracion.

Authorities say the victim was flown to Westchester Medical Center by helicopter and was hospitalized for two days. Four other people were also inside the apartment but were unhurt, according to police, including the victim’s two young children, who are described as infants by officials.

Authorities say another suspect was armed with a knife and that the men and victim knew each other, but wouldn’t reveal a motive.

Authorities hope the arrests serve as an example to anyone considering committing a crime in the village.

Officials say a grand jury is reviewing the case and more charges and arrests are expected.
