A Long Island organization is helping to provide essential resources to residents and families in need.
The Family Service League offers a variety of programs from crisis counseling to youth services, job training and housing help.
“Family Service League for over 95 years has been the safety net for communities across Long Island, and we link people to services, valuable essential services that keep them afloat in their most difficult times,” says Jonathan Chenkin, of the Family Service League. “Everything from services, behavioral health addiction, early education, housing issues….you name it, we have over 60 programs to address all the issues.”
Molly Ferro, of Commack, started volunteering for the group years ago to organize and raise funds for their Walk for Wellness at Belmont Lake State Park.
“I love driving awareness to the walk, bringing in my friends and family and helping support this incredible organization and all that they do,” Ferro says.
In the four years since Ferro started to chair the walk, she's helped raise close to $500,000.
“I think the walk has made a huge difference in what they're able to do,” Ferro says. “The Family Service League helps children, families, elderly people who are struggling in everyday situations. It helps them to get back on their feet and get back into the world.”
The organization provides support to more than 50,000 Long Islanders every day.
