The risk for dangerous flash floods is very elevated this evening. The atmosphere is juiced with moisture. Rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches an hour are possible. This type of weather setup is very good for inconvenient AND serious flooding. Please take any and all warnings seriously.
A slow-moving weather feature will spiral spokes of nasty weather through the area. The primary threat is flooding rain, but any storm could contain destructive winds, hail and dangerous lightning.
Unfortunately, the pattern lingers into early Thursday. With that said, tonight is the worst of the expected weather, yet passing showers are possible both Wednesday and Thursday. We are not forecasting main stem river flooding. The flooding that occurs is due to sewers and drainage systems being overwhelmed by the volume of rain that falls. The showers and scattered storms for tomorrow and Wednesday might re-aggravate flood potential.
Better weather is expected from Friday right through most of the weekend with glorious sunshine and near seasonable early August warmth.
