Two weeks after primary day, the battle for the Democratic line in Mount Vernon's mayoral race is finally over with Clinton Young being declared the official winner.
Election officials declared Young the winner by a margin of 380 votes. Mayor Ernie Davis announced Tuesday that he intends to stay in the race come November by running on the Conservative and Independent lines.
Young had hoped that Davis would support him in his race for mayor and unite the Democratic Party, which had been divided by the primary race. Davis? decision is paving the way for a spirited three-way race including Republican Janet Snyder.
