(10/19/06) YORKTOWN - A woman was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center Thursday after a frightening accident in front of her Yorktown driveway.
The 20-year-old woman was turning her Nissan Maxima into her driveway on Route 129 between Hayes Drive and Underhill Avenue when her car was struck from behind by an Audi. The 17-year-old boy driving the Audi caused the Maxima to slam into a telephone pole. Doctors diagnosed the woman with several fractures while the boy escaped with minor injuries. Police say neither driver was intoxicated.
Residents say many people speed on Route 129 because it bridges Taconic State Parkway and Croton-Harmon train station. About 80 percent of all accidents occur within two miles of the driver's home, national statistics show.
