Yorktown Supervisor Tom Diana is hoping to win his first election and keep his post as he gets ready to square off against Democratic challenger Jann Mirchandani.

Diana was appointed to the position in January when former Supervisor Matt Slater was elected to the state Assembly.

Mirchandani is a small business owner.

Following a controversy involving late garbage pickup, both candidates say improving infrastructure is a top priority.

"Infrastructure doesn't necessarily mean pipes in the ground. It also means our police, our fire, and our ambulances," says Diana. "Our roadways, black roads in the summer, black roads in the winter – that's what people want and deserve."

Mirchandani says preparedness is important.

"We have aging infrastructure," says Mirchandani. "We need to not just patch what we have, we need to expand our capacity and I think we have a lot of work to do and we need to be strategic."

The winner will serve a two-year term as the town supervisor.
