Students at Yorktown High School walked out of class Friday to protest the suspension of their principal.

At 11:15 a.m., a large group of students walked out of class and congregated in front of the district offices. The students chanted ?Sullivan? in protest of principal John Sullivan?s suspension.School officials told students they could face disciplinary action if they walked out. Many students kept the protest on campus grounds and took to the athletic field.

Sullivan, who has been the principal at Yorktown High School for two years, says a courier delivered a letter to his home Thursday that stated he was suspended.News 12 Westchester obtained a copy of the letter. The letter says Sullivan failed to attend a meeting and complete staff evaluations. Sullivan says the allegations are false.

School Superintendent Ralph Napolitano says he couldn?t comment on the specifics of the suspension. Napolitano will be running the high school for now. Sullivan?s suspension will remain in effect at least until the next school board meeting.
