The Yorktown School District has refused to accept a donation of nativity scenes for display at its schools.
Anthony Grasso, a member of the district?s budget committee, has been trying donate nativity scenes to schools in the Yorktown School District for about three years. The district has refused his offer, stating it would violate the separation of church and state. The district clarified its policy on what can be displayed, including a menorah without candles. Grasso countered by saying he felt a crèche without a Jesus figure should also be permitted.
School officials have said they will review their policies after the new year, but for now there will be no nativity scenes in Yorktown schools.
