Yorktown police rolled out a new tool to help them connect residents with resources.
The department partnered with the Alliance for Safe Kids to develop the new tool. It's called a Palm Card and contains a list of community services. Users scan the QR code on their smartphones and click the link.
The card contains both hotlines and national statistics.

Yorktown police may be one of the first departments in the county to utilize the technology.
ASK volunteer coordinator Kyra Brunner says it was developed with the help of some local tech-savvy high school interns over the summer.

Starting this week, Yorktown police officers will have the Palm Cards on hand, whether answering a call or patrolling the streets.
