A Yonkers woman turned herself in Friday on charges she allegedly shot her husband in his sleep last year.
Police say Emily Dearden shot her husband Kenneth Dearden in the back of the head in their Pondfield Road West home in November 2013. Kenneth Dearden survived the shooting after undergoing multiple surgeries.
Emily Dearden, an NYPD psychologist, is now being charged with attempted murder. At arraignment, her bail was set at $150,000. She has been put on administrative leave by the NYPD.
Police say Emily Dearden initially blamed the shooting on an intruder. Further investigation showed that she was having an alleged affair with a man in Texas, which police say may have been the motive. Kenneth Dearden sued his wife over the incident and Emily countersued, saying his allegations are lies.
Emily Dearden's attorney, Paul Bergman, called the case "very weak" and vowed to fight the charges. Bergman also requested visitation of the couple's two children, who are 11 and 14 years old, as she has been barred from their home while the case is pending.
