The transition from fully remote to hybrid learning is underway in the Yonkers City School District.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin Quezada says they are ready, prepared and committed to keeping children and staff safe.
Inside the building, temperatures are constantly checked, parents fill out health assessments for their kids daily and students are spread out and masked up in each classroom.
About two-thirds of the district has opted in for hybrid learning split between two different groups during the week, while the remainder will continue learning online.
Yonkers Federation of Teachers President Samantha Rosado-Ciriello says the schools aren't ready for reopening. She says HVAC systems aren't complete, PPE is still missing and that some schools don't have enough nurses.
District officials disagree and are still going ahead with the hybrid plan, despite the objections.
