Monday marks two years since Yonkers teen Nina Cordero was killed in a car crash. She was 19.

Yonkers City Hall lit up in her favorite colors Monday night, green and pink, as a loving gesture and a means to raise awareness.

The family is working with the city to try and make a difference and reduce speed, especially on Central Avenue, where Cordero died.

A Puerto Rico native and graduate of Yonkers Roosevelt High School, Cordero was set to begin college before her life was cut short.

"It hasn't gotten any easier," her father Edward Cordero said. "It just gets tougher and tougher, but our family and friends are just bearing with it, trying to be the best we can and hold it together."

The driver of the car was sentenced to three to nine years for his reckless driving. Edward wants to see the maximum sentence.

"It doesn't bring my daughter back, but it will keep them off the street," he said.
