Yuddy Fermin, 18, of Yonkers, recently received a scholarship from the nonprofit 100 Hispanic Women of Westchester, which will be used to further her education and support her career aspirations.
The Dominican American and her close-knit family were excited because they made their culture and education a priority in their household.
Fermin was chosen by the organization due to her high grade-point average,  socio-economic needs, and her willingness to succeed. The organization seeks to empower Latina women and support their aspirations for higher education.
Fermin and nine other scholarship award winners in Westchester are now part of the network of women who can help them achieve their future dreams. The organization also fights for fair pay and higher positions for Latinas in the workplace.
Fermin says she will continue her education at Baruch College and looks forward to learning from other Latina professionals.
The 100 Hispanic Women organization is expanding to include chapters in Rockland County, New Jersey, and the Bronx.
