Police have arrested an 18-year-old in connection to a shooting in Yonkers where a 9-year-old girl was hit with a stray bullet.
Darrell Darby, of Yonkers, is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Police say the girl was walking with her parents near the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Morris Street around 1 a.m. when she was shot in the leg. Police say Darby was involved in an altercation with another man earlier. They say he retrieved a 22-caliber handgun and was seeking revenge when he fired at a group of men.
Darby is being held at the Westchester County Jail. The girl is now recovering from her gunshot wound at home. Child Protective Services is investigating why the girl was out at 1 a.m.
